I think you´re asking the wrong question. It is based on the premise that "your friend" is weird. But "being weird" is a matter of perception and circumstances. If a nun likes listening to death metal and starts headbanging in the monastery, that would be perceived as weird, given the circumstances. Does this mean that every headbanger is weird? No, it´s only the circumstances and how the peer group perceives a certain behaviour that make it appear weird and hence the person who behaves that way. Maybe the question should not be "How much weird is fine?", but more "Am I surrounding myself with the right group of people?". In roughly 8 billion humans, the chance to find people with similar behaviours, beliefs or interests as those of "your friend" is not that bad. It´s not the individual´s fault, it´s not the group´s fault. Sometimes people just don´t match together, but this gives neither of them the universal label "weird".
